Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest disciplines established at the Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). It inherits the tradition and characteristics of HIT, and plays an extremely important role in national defense, military and civilian areas. It currently has the Advanced Design and Manufacturing Technology research center, Optical-Mechanical-Electrical Integration Technology research center and etc. It has also established the Key Laboratory of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (in preparation), Key Laboratory of Digital Manufacturing Technology, Key Laboratory of Aerospace Image Sensing Technology and Equipment, Engineering Laboratory of Industrial Technology and System, Engineering Laboratory of Performance Robots at Digital Stage, Innovative and Entrepreneurial Service Platform of HIT Creative Robots, and a few other national and municipal innovation carriers.

The discipline has a strong teaching and research team formed by “Thousand Talent Program” of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, “Millions of Leading Engineering Talents”, national “Ten Thousand Talent Program” leading academics, “Young and middle-aged leading scientists, engineers and innovators” of Ministry of Science and Technology and some other national talents. It has 23 full-time faculties, including 9 professors, 9 associate professors and 5 assistant professors/researchers. The discipline has a good network of international cooperation, which has good partnership with overseas world-class universities and research institutions. It also maintains long-term and in-depth collaborations with internationally recognized scholars and research groups in terms of academic research and personnel training.

The main research directions include the robotics and automation, precision ultra-precision machining technology and equipment, micro-electromechanical systems and micro (optical) electronic manufacturing technology, mechanical and electrical testing and equipment fault diagnosis and prediction. In recent 5 years, the discipline has been funded more than 60 national projects including National Natural Science Foundation of China (General Program; Key Program), key projects of national defense and military field, etc. There are also more than 100 important projects from Guangdong province and Shenzhen city. More than 1000 high-level academic papers have been published, including nearly 300 papers in high-level SCI journals. The significant contributions of our School to academic research are highly recognized by a few prestigious awards, including 2 awards at the national level and 1 at the provincial and ministerial level.
